Gun violence by the numbers

Measuring the impact of our work will require sourcing data about victims of gun violence globally. Although many different organizations collect such data in multiple countries, it is difficult to gather reliable raw data that is not already summarized in a specific format or for a particular purpose. Contravim will consolidate data from different sources to provide an ongoing picture of the actual victims of gun violence globally, in particular leveraging:

  • John Hopkins Center for gun violence solutions: this organization collects annual data on gun violence for the US and individual states, summarized in various formats and an annual report.
  • Small Arms Survey: this non-profit tracksĀ statistics on violent deaths and compiles them in its Global Violent Deaths (GVD) database, which is accessible online and available for download.

Using metrics compiled from these sources, Contravim will measure its progress toward the overarching goal of reducing victims of gun violence across the globe.
